About Sangiovese
Sangiovese is the most widely planted red grape in Italy and the soul of the Tuscan classics. It is a late-ripening, terroir-sensitive grape that shows a different face from place to place — from playful and juicy to serious and long-lived.
Character
Recognisable by its bright ruby-red colour and the interplay of red cherry, plum, tomato leaf, tea and Mediterranean herbs. The high acidity and the firm, sometimes slightly dusty tannin give the wine structure and a pronounced appetite-whetting character.
In natural wine
The fresh acidity makes Sangiovese naturally lively and suited to a pure approach. With spontaneous fermentation and little sulphur, clear, juicy wines emerge that let the spicy, earthy character of the grape speak fully — sometimes also as a surprisingly approachable young red.
At the table
Born for the table: pasta with ragù, grilled meat, poultry, pizza or matured cheese. The acidity cuts effortlessly through fat and tomato.
